Polynomial-based rotation invariant features

چکیده

One of basic difficulties of machine learning is handling unknown rotations of objects, for example in image recognition. A related problem is evaluation of similarity of shapes, for example of two chemical molecules, for which direct approach requires costly pairwise rotation alignment and comparison. Rotation invariants are useful tools for such purposes, allowing to extract features describing shape up to rotation, which can be used for example to search for similar rotated patterns, or fast evaluation of similarity of shapes e.g. for virtual screening, or machine learning including features directly describing shape. A standard approach are rotationally invariant cylindrical or spherical harmonics, which can be seen as based on polynomials on sphere, however, they provide very few invariants only one per degree of polynomial. There will be discussed a general approach to construct arbitrarily large sets of rotation invariants of polynomials, for degree D in R up to O(n) independent invariants instead of O(D) offered by standard approaches, possibly also a complete set: providing not only necessary, but also sufficient condition for differing only by rotation (and reflectional symmetry).

A novel set of rotationally and translationally invariant features for images based on the non-commutative bispectrum

We propose a new set of rotationally and translationally invariant features for image or pattern recognition and classification. The new features are cubic polynomials in the pixel intensities and provide a richer representation of the original image than most existing systems of invariants. Our construction is based on the generalization of the concept of bispectrum to the three-dimensional ro...

Pseudo Zernike Moment-based Multi-frame Super Resolution

The goal of multi-frame Super Resolution (SR) is to fuse multiple Low Resolution (LR) images to produce one High Resolution (HR) image. The major challenge of classic SR approaches is accurate motion estimation between the frames. To handle this challenge, fuzzy motion estimation method has been proposed that replaces value of each pixel using the weighted averaging all its neighboring pixels i...

Rotation Invariant Image Description with Local Binary Pattern Histogram Fourier Features

In this paper, we propose Local Binary Pattern Histogram Fourier features (LBP-HF), a novel rotation invariant image descriptor computed from discrete Fourier transforms of local binary pattern (LBP) histograms. Unlike most other histogram based invariant texture descriptors which normalize rotation locally, the proposed invariants are constructed globally for the whole region to be described. ...

New Texture Signatures and Their Use in Rotation Invariant Texture Classification 1

In this paper, we present a theoretically and computationally simple but efficient approach for rotation invariant texture classification. This method is based on new texture signatures extracted from spectrum. Rotation invariant texture features are obtained based on the extension of the derived signatures. The features are tested with 1000 randomly rotated samples of 20 Brodatz texture classe...
